#12 of 52 Spiritual Deposits: Invest Your Time, Don't Spend It! (Video Blog)

Do you enjoy new calendars? I know I do. There’s nothing like a fresh start. I mark it up. I fill it with birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, holidays, vacations. You name it. I fill it with memorable days and events surrounding those I love. Those I care about. Days or events that I want those around me to realize that I’m thinking about them. That I care. If I tried hard enough, I might have an action item for someone on about 60 to 90 of those 365 days.

What about God’s calendar? Imagine that. What does He have on His calendar? What does He have to remind Himself of throughout the year? He knows my birthday. He knows my anniversary. He knows when my children were born. He knows all and it comforts me.

Our earthly calendar should be our record of memories. Our reminder calendar of dates and events that matter most to those we love. To those who matter to us. Our calendar should include those we are taught by Jesus to love. Those around us. Our neighbors, our friends. Those in need. Those far away. Those in pain.

Mark up your calendar with time you expect to spend on those in need. Your service. Your mission to the Kingdom. We should block out time to spend and time to reflect on our work for God. Our calendars should be filled with time spent on others, not ourselves. Like God’s calendar. No time to reflect on Himself. Rather all the millions of His children.

Did Jesus ever sit in January and fill up His calendar with vacation time, time at the spa, TV time, time on holiday? Of course not. Jesus saw His calendar as your calendar. His calendar focused on others. As our calendar can be. Fill your calendar with memories of service. Of mission. Fill it with the needs of others. As Jesus did. As God does.

Invest your time, don’t simply spend it.
