#29 of 52 Spiritual Deposits: Eternal Timepiece

We are collectors. Passionate collectors. Collectors of things, items, possessions that will remain here. On earth. Our passion goes to the “nth” degree.

During the holidays, I received a catalog of potential collections. We all get them. Catalogs of items that we “want,” but don’t need. Material possessions. A desire reflecting an earthly focus. This particular catalog showcased timepieces. Watches. Men’s and women’s. No ordinary catalog. Hundreds of pages of timepieces with price tags beginning at $5,000 and up. As much as $250,000 per timepiece. Even those marked “price upon request.” Price upon request? Who would buy these? Why would time be such an interest as to command these prices? Why did I get this catalog?

I can answer the last question right away…I am a watch lover. Always have been, always will be. My passion came from my childhood. My mother gave me a pocket watch. A special item. My first real timepiece. A magnificent, gold timepiece that I still own today. It sits on a shelf in my office as I type this passage.

Answers to the remaining questions, center on earth. Our earthly focus. Our focus on today. Tomorrow. This morning. Time at any given moment. Yes, we need to know what time it is. For appointments, for our schedules, for our lives. But to constantly monitor time in such a manner?

At these prices, I would expect a watch that could tell us our time remaining. Our time left on earth. How much more time before we meet God? How much more time before we review our Spiritual Portfolios? Perhaps, we as Christians would be better equipped to live God’s mission—to love God and to love others—if we had such a timepiece.

What would that watch cost? Would we be willing to pay for it? As a watch collector myself, I envision this timepiece as a blessing, not a curse. A clock signaling when we get to meet God. A countdown until our Portfolio Review, our welcome meeting to study and reflect on our good works on earth. A watch that God collects upon our arrival to His throne. A watch that God indicates we no longer need. Eternity has no end. Time is not an issue. Never was. Once we accept Jesus, time becomes endless.

The next time you glance at your watch, think of eternity. Your eternal timepiece. God’s timepiece of your time on earth. He knows when you will arrive. He has the appointment on His calendar. He won’t miss the meeting. Neither will you. Plan for it. Look forward to it.

Fill your time on earth with Spiritual deposits. Watch time fly by. When you Serve, Mission, Give, time escapes. Immerse yourself in deposits, and time becomes nonexistent. Eternal time. Never-ending time. What time does your watch show? Mine shows eternity. An eternity of time left with Jesus. With God.
